Last Christmas & Dil Mera Churaya Kyun

We always noticed how similar the tunes of Last Christmas & Dil Mera Churaya Kyun from the movie Akhele Hum Akhele Tum were. My sister Sneha & I decided to put the songs together in a little Bollywood Christmas Cover :)

Enjoy the lyrics video!

Feliz Navidad & Prospero Nuevo Ano!

My sister and I had an AMAZING time putting this video together! From dancing in the snow, to laughing over several iterations of bad harmony, to eating breaks, it was full of all the amazing things that make the Holidays so special! Laughter, music, food and family.

I have been learning Spanish for nearly 2 years now, so we picked this song because I thought it would be fun to sing in Spanish. I apologize in advance for any accent issues :)

Also, I would just like to say – Isn’t my sister FANTASTIC? I know sometime it’s hard to tell who’s singing what, because we keep switching between highs and lows, but it’s her voice that kicks off the song on the main tune of Feliz Navidad.

We wish You and your family a VERY Merry Christmas, a fantastic Holiday Season, and a Wonderful 2014!

En Veetu Thottatil

The final of three recordings I made with my friend Abhinav :)

Music by A. R. Rahman.
Original Vocalists : S. P. Balasubrahmanyam, Sujatha

(I found this translation on a random forum)

Ask the flowers at my home garden
Ask all the windows at my home
Ask my coconut grove
They will say your name

Ask the flowers at my home garden
Ask all the windows at my home
Ask my coconut grove
They will speak my heart

A lady singer should not be silent
If all the bees buzz then the garden can’t withstand
If all the buds make sound, then the bees can’t hear
After aadi (season) the river won’t wait
After aadi, the alipoo (flower) does not close
Wishes vibrating

Without the permission of ‘telling’, I came to tell
There’s no distance between ‘tell’ and ‘meaning
No love reaches the heaven without telling
Even if counting ends, kisses do not,

Kabira (Encore Version)

This is another song that Abhi & I recorded together :) I am still waiting for a Karaoke version of the original Kabira! It’s one of my favorite 2013 songs

Movie: Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani
Music: Pritam
Lyrics: Amitabh Bhattacharya
Singers: Rekha Bharadwaj, Tochi Raina

F: My darling daughter is leaving for her in-law’s home
She gave tears in our eyes, as a blessing
She took away her jaggery and covering of raw grains
M: Oh great one, heed to this
Oh deep thinker, don’t leave in this way
Come, your shadows are calling you
The same bed broke, the cold wind grazes on your path
The cream of milk is the same, the earten pot grazes on your path
F: Oh girl, your husband is a foreigner
Your bond is blessed by the heavens
Look it’s happiness all around

Teri Aahatein Nahin Hain

My moms college friend’s son moved to Canada, and  we both realized our common love for music! We had a great afternoon recording songs together. Stay tuned for a few more :)

Song: Aahatein
Movie: Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu
Song Writer: Amitabh Bhattacharya
Composer: Amit Trivedi

(Thanks to for the translation)

small things, just like that, while passing by,
memories go, stroking me,
in the nights, below the pillow, old smiles,
make me sleep..
it’s not possible to meet, but tell me this much
why have we met then..
I can’t call you, can’t forget you,
why is it so?
everything is the same, but something is missing..
the sound of your footsteps isn’t there..

I didn’t know, you didn’t know,
whatever happened without knowing..
something happened, that didn’t happen to me,
why did it happen to you then..
it’s not your mistake, it’s not my mistake,
why are there complaints still..
I can’t call you, can’t forget you,
why is it so?
everything is the same, but something is missing..
the sound of your footsteps isn’t there..

why, why aren’t they there

Rupaiya- Satyamev Jayate

This amazing song composed by Swanand Kirkire followed the Satyamev Jayate episode on Dowry. Stephen Murray composed the piano track for this unplugged version.

In a nutshell, it means “I’m not a burden on anyones head, I’m a strong woman. I can do it on my own, and I don’t need a marriage at all. This is the time to say no, because no amount of money could ever sell me.”  It’s scary to think that these things happen in today’s day and age, and I hope every woman going through something like this can find the strength within themselves.

I recorded this track a couple of weeks ago using my Yeti Blue Microphone.

Ninnukori- Agni Nachathiram

One of our close family friends Kumar uncle is a great pianist, so his 60th birthday party would not have been complete without a family jam session! Here is Kumar uncles rendition of “Ninnukori Varnam”, with me doing the vocals.
